About the Department
Currently, the Civil Engineering Department include a distinguished and most promising program “Water Engineering Program”. It is a discipline which concerns with the up-to-date water and civil fields. Water Engineering covers the traditional aspects of civil engineering in addition to a wide spectrum of water engineering issues such as hydraulics, hydrology, environmental engineering, water treatment technologies, irrigation structures, irrigation and drainage planning, survey and environmental topics, GIS and remote sensing application in water science as well as reinforced concrete design, steel design, structural design, soil mechanics, construction, and material properties. The additional special topics that will be added to the graduates’ program are desalination, advances in irrigation management, applied GIS, hydro-informatics, engineering systems, engineering economics and water resources engineering.
Water is a key sustainable development pillars and the most essential part for all life aspects in modern societies. Water is so essential for any urban project, industrial processes and agriculture activity. Water is not only required for drinking but it can be a source or renewable energy such as water turbines and tidal energy. Also water desalination and water humidification has become recently new promising water engineering technologies. The graduates of Water Program will be able to work in all the conventional fields of civil engineering such as waste water and water treatment, geotechnical, reinforced concrete design, steel design, construction, material properties, environmental, hydrology, irrigation and drainage network design. The graduates will be able to manage site work and all the infra structure work such water and sewage piping systems. Water Engineers serve the society by providing water with high quality and cheap and protect the surrounding environment. The study program Bachelor of Science in Water Engineering consists of 10 semesters where the students earn at least 170 credit hours of coursework.
The Water Program curriculum is designed to provide the students with the knowledge and hands-on experience of water sciences engineering fundamentals, environmental issues, related social and economic aspects of water, and the appropriate software programs to develop modeling tools and systems that can predict the results of water processes plans, management and development interventions.
As water engineer job is needed in all aspects of life in the society, typical job opportunities for water engineers offered by this Water Engineering Program are covering –but not limited to- the following aspects: waste water treatment, irrigation and drainage network, desalination, GIS & hydro-informatics, construction, site work, reinforced concrete & structural design, geotechnical work, steel design, environmental work, hydraulic design, and hydrology. The graduates can choose from a wide variety of industries for job choices. They are engaged in the advancement of industries including academic career, official water institutions like ministries and authorities, non-government water engineering firms and consultancies and a variety of similar areas abroad as well as to work at one of the R&D applications agencies. Graduates can also pursue further studies in renowned institutions of the world, in water sciences, or other fields related to the discipline.
